BASF plant explosion toll rises to three fatalities

20th Oct 2016- Ludwigshafen, Germany – Divers today fished out a body from the Rhine river, which could be the third fatality of the explosion accident that took place at the BASF site in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The body is yet to be identified. Six people were injured in the accident and saw huge plumes of smoke rising up in the sky. Officials have asked people to remain indoors for fear of breathing in toxic chemicals. The cause of the accident was not clear. It occurred in the section of the harbor that connected the unloading dock to a storage terminal.
BASF is one of the world’s largest chemical companies with an annual turnover of about $80 billion last year.
